McMahon-Hussein Correspondence

Imprimir esta pagina

1915 - 1916

In the middle of WWI, when the Ottoman Empire was nearing collapse, a series of letters were exchanged between the British (McMahon) and the Sharif of Mecca (Hussein), in which the British encouraged the Arabs to revolt against the Ottomans, by pledging support for their cause. Many see these documents, in combination with the Balfour Declaration, as an example of how the British would say two different things to two different groups of people and contradicted themselves to the point that it contributed to the current conflict wherein both parties' narratives (Israelis and Palestinians, now) claim support from the British.
