The Ku Klux Klan

Print this page

The Ku Klux Klan was a group of white Protestants who hated African Americans, Jews, Catholics, drug dealers, and other minorities.  They acted as terrorist and committed horrible hate crimes.  They wore white pointed hats, masks, and robes to hide their identities.  The Klan was nationwide with over 4 million members in 1925.  To display their hatred towards African Americans and others they would have large meetings during the night and burn crosses and organize public rallies advertising their hatred towards minorities.  The rallies were very violent, and the Ku Klux Klan would kill and hurt many others.  The 1920s was a good an bad time for the Ku Klux Klan.  In the early and mid-1920s, the KKK was growing rapidly and was also expanding to women and teen klans.  This timeline highlights the major events that took place in the 1920s. By the end of the 1920s, the Ku Klux Klan's size was decreasing along with their power and influence on the nation.  The K.K.K had a large impact on the United States because it was a major time of segregation against blacks and other minorities.  Believe it or not, the actions of the K.K.K helped the United States grow to be a country that accepted everyone despite their differences.
