The moon was created by  a planetismal collision. A "planetismal" was a early type of planet. The planetismals would grow larger by colliding with each other. When the early Earth collided with the early moon the moon debree from the collision was pulled toward the moon and Earth and then heat and pressure from the gravitational pull of the Early earth and moon compacted the debree.
