Missouri Compromise (1820) was an act of congress submitted by Henry Clay.

Missouri Compromise (1850) which repealed the 1820 act by passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act(1854) which led immediately to the formation if the Republican Party and the events that led to the Civil War.In regard to the original compromise (1820) both Jefferson and John Adams saw it as "a title page to a great, tragic volume" - they were so right! Maine admitted as a free state. Missouri admitted as slave state.
