World War 1
28-07-1914 - 11-11-1918
Significance of World War 1 on Sweden
Sweden remained neutral during WW1. Because of its neutrality Sweden benefited from the worldwide demand for swedish steel, ball bearings, wood pulp, and matches. This allowed Sweden to transform its poor society into a prosperous social welfare state, that it still has today. Due to the economic prosperity it also enabled Sweden to pioneer in public health, housing, and job security programs.
